CBD (Cannabidiol) In Sport & Athletes

CBD Oil Cannabidiol In Sports & Athletes

CBD (Cannabidiol) has fast become one of the most popular supplements with athletes and fitness enthusiasts in recent years.

It has taken me by great surprise to see how well received and interested the sports community and athletes are in CBD oil as a natural supplement to aid recovery after intense workouts.

CBD (Cannabidiol) opens up a whole new area of supplementation for athletes, aimed at promoting relaxation, recovery, reducing pain, acting as an anti-anxiety agent and may even promote healing from traumatic skeletal injuries.

Athletes are also benefitting from Cannabidiol’s mild analgesic, anti-inflammatory and pain relieving qualities through the use of topical CBD infused products as a way of managing post-workout muscle and joint pain.

CBD Benefits For Athletes

Recent research has found:

Athletes could benefit from CBD to manage pain, inflammation and the swelling processes associated with injury.

CBD could be useful to manage anxiety, fear memory process, sleep and sleepiness in athletes.

Preclinical studies suggest that CBD could be useful to athletes due to its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anxiolytic, neuroprotective properties and its influence on the sleep-wake cycle.  [1]

CBD Regulatory Status

CBD (Cannabidiol) has been removed from the list of prohibited supplements by the World Anti-Doping Agency for several years now and has paved the way for CBD usage by professional athletes.

Interestingly, however, the World Anti-Doping Agency removed CBD from the list of prohibited substances – in or out of competition – since 2018.

I suspect the removal of CBD from the list of restricted substances has really significantly helped in reducing the stigma surrounding non-psychoactive, safe and non-toxic cannabinoids such as Cannabidiol (CBD).
