Clinical Trial Finds Full-Spectrum High Cannabidiol Treatment Improves Symptoms In Anxiety Patients

Results from a recent two-stage, phase 2 clinical trial have found that full spectrum, high cannabidiol treatment improved clinical and cognitive symptoms in patients suffering from anxiety disorder.

Anxiety disorders affect millions of people worldwide, causing distressing symptoms such as racing heart, intrusive thoughts, restlessness, and sleep disturbances.

With conventional treatments often falling short, individuals are now seeking alternative natural solutions with better safety profiles such as CBD (Cannabidiol).

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid found within the Cannabis Sativa plant, which research has found to exhibit anxiolytic and numerous other diverse therapeutic properties.

This recent phase-2 clinical trial further builds on the preliminary and previous scientific evidence on Cannabidiol’s potential as a natural anti-anxiety treatment.

To date, only one double-blind clinical trial has examined CBD for anxiety; teenagers with SAD exhibited reduced anxiety following 4 weeks of CBD treatment (300 mg/day).

While the science surrounding CBD is still evolving, early research suggests that CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system to promote a sense of calmness and balance.

Contrary to its psychoactive cousin, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD does not induce a “high” and has been shown to have a calming effect on the mind and body.

The study published November 2022 took 14 outpatients with a diagnosis of moderate-to-severe anxiety and assessed the efficacy and tolerability of four-weeks of 1 mL t.i.d. treatment with a full-spectrum, high-CBD sublingual solution (9.97 mg/mL CBD, 0.23 mg/mL Δ−9-tetrahydrocannabinol).

Findings suggest significant improvement on primary outcomes measuring anxiety and secondary outcomes assessing mood, sleep, quality of life, and cognition (specifically executive function) following treatment.

The study concluded:

Results provide preliminary evidence supporting efficacy and tolerability of a full-spectrum, high-CBD product for anxiety.

Patients quickly achieve and maintain symptom reduction with few side effects.[1]
